kate's 8 day 120 mile walk along 5 canals for MNDA

Kate Ainslie Williams · 19 May 2025
In August 2023, while on holiday in Italy, Caterina Goodhart fell head first eight meters off a cliff onto sea and rocks sustaining over 18 fractures to neck, ribs, pelvis, collar bone and femur. Caterina was flown home by air ambulance where her recovery began.
In October she noticed her speech was slurring and on 21st December she was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease due to the severe head trauma from the fall.
Caterina remains the powerhouse she has always been even though she is unable to speak or move and communicates through a computer which reads her eye movements.
Caterina continues to run her Picture Restoration School in UK and India, is the subject of a documentary made by her daughter, Davinia, and is a very involved grandmother to her first grandchild, Allegra.
Caterina and her family have been hugely supported by the NHS and the Motor Neurone Disease Association which researches treatments and assists people living with the disease, for which they are extremely grateful.
I have been a close friend of Caterina's since her arrival here from Italy over forty years ago as the new wife of my friend, Christopher Goodhart. I am so happy to be able to support MNDA in the last of my walks along the major canals of England and in support of my friend.
