We all set ourselves new goals and challenges in the New Year so I'm going to set myself a challenge of walking 10,000 steps per day, every day throughout January. The aim is to have completed 310,000 steps that month.

I'm raising money and awareness of a brilliant charity which provides essential accommodation and support to homeless veterans. Launchpad has three houses in Liverpool, Newcastle and Durham and provides accommodation for up to 100 veterans.

When veterans leave the military, most find the transition to civilian life smooth, however, the few who do struggle to reintegrate for one reason or another find themselves in a difficult situation, sometimes with minimal support.

Launchpad offers vital support to those veterans who need help with accommodation and further tailored support. They work with specialist providers to help veterans navigate the transition from military to civilian life and to go on and live independently.

90% of the veterans who arrive at Launchpad are homeless and since 2013, over 575 veterans have been supported. On average over the last five years, 61% of residents successfully moved on while 41% gained employment during their time at Launchpad.
