Story
I’m raising funds for the special named fund ‘Just George’ at CCLG: The Children & Young People’s Cancer Association.
I didn’t personally have the privilege of knowing George, but I went to school with his mum, Lisa, and have known her for many years. I have followed George’s story and seen the unimaginable journey that both Lisa, David and the family have been through.
So when I was given the opportunity to run the London Marathon and raise money for Just George, I didn’t hesitate.
Just George was created in George’s memory to raise vital funds for research into childhood cancer, helping to improve treatments and outcomes for children and young people facing this devastating disease.
As a mum myself, I simply cannot imagine what it must be like to lose a child. Lisa’s strength, and the way George’s memory continues to inspire something so positive, is incredibly moving. Being able to support that through taking on a huge physical challenge — makes this marathon mean so much more than a medal or a finish time.
Every training run, every difficult mile and every step of those 26.2 miles through London will have a purpose behind it.
I will be running for George, for Lisa and her family, and for every child and family affected by childhood cancer.
Any donation, however big or small, will mean so much and will help Just George continue to make a difference.
26.2 miles. One very special reason. Just George. 💙
