Story
I am raising money for Cruse Scotland in memory of my lovely mum.
Please consider supporting me as I take on this charity abseil!
In late 2021, myself and my husband experienced a double bereavement with the loss of both his dad and my mum. My mum was diagnosed with cancer and passed away six weeks later at the age of 61. This was desperately shocking. She was active, fun and such a joy to be with. We had welcomed our second baby only 3 months prior to her diagnosis. When I look back - I’m not sure how we got through the early days of grief, in a haze of sleepless new-baby nights. In truth, grief still affects me, some days more than others, and I feel deep sadness over the loss of my mum, sadness over the loss of my father in law, and grief over the things which I had planned for the future which will now never happen. Myself and my husband were and are fortunate to have a loving and supportive family, friends and church family.
Mum was close to completing a course in Christian counselling and had planned to start a new career as a counsellor at the time of her death. She had recently completed a placement in bereavement counselling at Cruse Scotland, and I believe that this was meaningful to her. We talked about it after her own cancer diagnosis.
I am now keen to share a little of my story and to fundraise for Cruse Scotland, so have signed up to a charity abseil in March from the Falkirk Wheel!!! I would appreciate all and any donations, big or small. Cruse Scotland do such important work. Grief will likely affect us all at some point in our lives. Sometimes the feelings can overwhelm us, so much so that we need help.
