We’re Breast Cancer Now, the charity that’s steered by world-class research and powered by life-changing care. We’re here for anyone affected by breast cancer, the whole way through, providing support for today and hope for the future. By 2050, we believe everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live – and be supported to live well. But we need to act now.

Story

Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Breast Cancer has impacted the lives of so many people. The lives of my family, the lives of my closest friends and beyond. We all know of someone who has suffered at the hands of some form of cancer and it needs to stop.

I want to help a little by fundraising for Breast Cancer Now, which is a UK charity who undertake world-class research and life changing support for people affected by breast cancer. I plan to do this by cycling 330km (200 miles) around the island of Mallorca with a close group of friends, in 1 day, which, given my recent medical history and current stage of recovery from my last surgery, will be a huge challenge, especially with close to 4,100 vertical metres of climbing involved. We were hoping to do the route on the Summer Solstice, but we'll be a few days later than planned - 24th June.

Many will already know, during summer 2021 I was hit by a van whilst cycling. I spent several days in hospital with a bleed on my brain, fractured sternum, dislocated sternoclavicular joint, crushed shoulder and internal bleeding around my heart and lungs. I was lucky to survive. Yes, I was wearing a helmet.

Since the accident I’ve undergone several surgeries and keep pushing myself to get back to cycling. My last surgery was only a few weeks ago and my surgeon thinks I’ll be on the limit of my recovery. This will be one of the biggest challenges I have undertaken, but nowhere near the challenges that those who suffer from breast cancer have to endure.

I also appreciate that money is scarce for everyone just now, but I would be eternally grateful if anyone could spare a couple of pounds to donate, even if it’s just the price of your morning coffee, it would help so much.

Once I complete this route, I will have to return for the next stage of my shoulder surgery, so this will be one of my last spins out on the bike.

Wish us all luck, and thank you so so much for your support and donation.

Nick
