Story
Hi everyone,
For my 60th birthday last December, my biggest wish was to do a wing walk (much to the horror of my family) and my wish has come true! More importantly I want to do this wing walk to raise money for a charity that is close to my heart, The Migraine Trust.
Those that know me will no doubt know that my lovely daughter Emma has suffered from debilitating migraines from the age of 9. This has been absolutely heart breaking as a mother to watch; however, it doesn’t come close to what Emma has gone through over the years.
One in seven people in the UK suffer from migraines and is the third most common disease in the world.Migraine is a complex neurological disorder that affects the whole body. It can prevent a person from functioning normally, and have devastating effects on the sufferer’s work, education and relationships with friends and family. The experience of migraine is unique to the individual but common symptoms include head pain, changes in vision, sensitivity to light, sounds and smells, fatigue and feeling and or being sick.
I’m sure we’ve all experienced a bad headache at some point, this is not a migraine. From watching Emma, I can say multiply that headache by 100, take some red hot needles and pierce them though your eyes into your brain, then throw in some vertigo and a good dose of vomiting and there you have just one version of a migraine. She has endured years of trial and error with medications, often with horrendous side effects, before finding one that not only helps but that she can tolerate.
There is no cure for migraines and fundraising in this area is still lacking, and this is why I would like to support this amazing charity. The Migraine Trust is dedicated to helping people affected by migraine. They are the only UK migraine charity providing information and support, campaign for awareness and change, and they fund and promote research. If you would like to learn more about migraines, I have provided a link to their website which is incredibly informative.
Thank you for taking the time to read to the end and considering this fundraiser. My wing walk will take place on the 21st of July, I am allocated 20 guests, so if there are any contributors that would like to come point fingers and have a laugh at me, please let me know!
