Story
Hadrian’s Wall Swimathon for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation
We’re a group of colleagues from Northumberland National Park. Over the last year, many of us have been affected by cancer—either personally or through someone close to us—so we wanted to do something positive together and raise money for a cause that matters.
The challenge
We’re holding a pool swimathon and, between us, we’re aiming to swim the distance between Birdoswald Roman Fort and Chesters Roman Fort, following the line of Hadrian’s Wall.
• Date: 7th June, Between 11am – 3pm
• Pool / venue: Wentworth Leisure Centre, Hexham
• Our target: 37 km's - the distance between Birdoswald Roman Fort and Chesters Roman Fort, following the line of Hadrian’s Wall.
Why the Sir Bobby Robson Institute?
We’ve chosen to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Institute in Newcastle. The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation was launched by Sir Bobby to help find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer. Today, that vision is becoming a reality through the creation of a world leading cancer trials research centre.
Construction of the Sir Bobby Robson Institute is now underway at the Freeman Hospital—but this is only the beginning. To complete and fully equip the centre, the Foundation needs further support, which is why we’re raising money.
Please support us
If you’re able to donate—no matter the amount—it will make a real difference. Thank you for supporting our swimathon and helping to fund better cancer detection and treatment research. If you’re eligible, please remember to tick Gift Aid when you donate.
