Meet Atlas, this amazing little boy who despite losing both eyes still loves to run, jump and play.

Atlas came into care of Cats Protection Norwich with his brother and two sisters from a feral colony of approximately 50 adult cats and 30 kittens. From the moment he arrived it was clear he needed urgent veterinary care. His right eye was cloudy, red and watering, and a veterinary examination revealed a cataract. Despite his difficult start, Atlas responded well to treatment and began to settle in, coming out of his shell to play with toys and enjoy his food. However, after a few weeks his left eye started to deteriorate and he was diagnosed with entropion, a painful condition where the eyelids roll in. To relieve the pain and give Atlas the best quality of life, the difficult decision was made to raise both eyes.

Thanks to this life-changing surgery Atlas is now free from the constant discomfort he’d been living with. The cost of his treatment including the removal of both eyes was £1,295. We’re fundraising to try and cover some of the funds spent on Atlas so we can be there for the next little kitten who desperately needs our help.

Atlas wasn’t the only cat helped. As part of our response to the colony we also trapped and neutered 29 cats at a cost of £2,300. Trap, neuter and return work is vital in preventing unwanted litters, reducing suffering and improving the welfare of feral cats. By controlling population growth we can ensure fewer cats are left to face illness, injury and hardship without the care they need.

Atlas has now recovered from his operation well. He is a very friendly and affectionate boy who loves to lick your hand and he purrs like a steam engine. If you could make a donation to Cats Protection Norwich it will allow us to be there for the next cat in need of love, help and warmth. Please share this page with your network, family and friends to help us reach a large amount of people and hit our target.

*We have increased our target to now extend past the funds needed to cover Atlas' care and to now also cover the costs to trap and neuter 29 other cats in the colony.*

If we raise above and beyond our target or cannot reach our target, then the funds will be used to help other cats and kittens in our care.
