One Team, Many Miles, Jumps, and Journeys. One Goal: To Make a Difference on the PICU at Miranda House

Skydive / HYROX/ Long distance walk
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. We’re the team behind the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Miranda House, Hull, a dedicated space supporting individuals during some of the most vulnerable and challenging moments of their mental health journey.
Our PICU provides intensive support for people in crisis, often those who need the highest level of care and supervision for their safety and well being. Creating a therapeutic, welcoming environment is essential to recovery. A calm, engaging space can make a world of difference for patients, helping them feel more grounded, respected, and supported.
That’s why we’re fundraising: to improve our ward and make it a more healing and hopeful place for everyone who stays with us. We’re aiming to raise money for things like mural walls, sensory tools, comforting decor, and other resources that patients and staff feel will enhance the therapeutic atmosphere and overall experience on the ward.
To show how much we care and how deeply committed we are to our patients, the PICU team has come together to organise a series of exciting and meaningful activities, all in the name of raising funds and awareness.
Here’s what we’ve got planned:
🚴♂️ Starting 05/07/25, the PICU team and some patients will take on the “Tour de Humber” a nonstop cycling challenge using gym equipment. We’ll ride 68 km (42 miles) without stopping, symbolically linking all Humber mental health sites, including wards, forensic services, and Trust HQ. Inspired by the Tour de France 🇫🇷
🚶♀️ Walk to Hornsea – On 09/08/25, we’ll be walking 15.3 miles from PICU, Miranda House to Hornsea, a journey that will take around 6 hours, all to raise awareness and funds.
🪂 Skydive – On 06/09, some brave members of our team will be taking a literal leap of faith and skydiving for the cause!
🏃♂️ Inflatable 10K Obstacle Run – On 20/09, we’ll be bouncing, climbing and laughing our way through a fun and challenging inflatable race.
💪 HYROX Birmingham – On 24/10, we’ll be pushing ourselves physically and mentally through this demanding fitness event.
And that’s not all – we’re planning more creative ways to raise money, including raffles and offering free haircuts to those in need in our community.
Why this matters to us
Working in PICU, we witness the strength it takes to recover, and the importance of kindness, dignity, and hope in that process. Many of our patients come to us during deeply distressing periods of their lives. By improving our ward environment and adding small but meaningful touches, we believe we can offer more than just treatment, we can offer comfort, inspiration, and a sense of care that lasts far beyond discharge.
This fundraiser is our way of showing our patients, their families, and our community that we are here for them not just clinically, but as humans who care deeply about their recovery and well being.
Thank you
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read about our fundraiser. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to creating a more nurturing space for those who need it most. We are incredibly grateful for your support.
With love and thanks,
The PICU Team at Miranda House
