Story
In July I will be tackling an epic personal challenge.
2,000 km | 15 days | 11 countries | one bike
Starting in Pisa, Italy, I will be riding my bike all the way home to Peel in the Isle of Man. In between, I will be cycling solo for 2,000 km (1,250 miles) and climbing around 15,000 metres (50,000 ft), totally self-supported over 15 days. The journey will take me across 11 countries, and each day will no doubt be full of adventures and challenges – navigating long distances, hills, weather and tired legs, all combined with the additional challenges that come with being a Type 1 diabetic.
So why the heck am I doing this?
I’m doing this challenge to raise money for Sight Matters, a local charity that does incredible work supporting people on the Isle of Man who are living with sight-related complications and sight loss.
I’m hoping that, with your support, we can raise at least £5,000 for this amazing charity.
This cause is particularly important to me as a Type 1 diabetic because although the condition can be managed , over time it can unfortunately lead to eyesight complications later in life and if not managed properly, it can even lead to permanent sight loss.
Sight Matters provides vital support, advice around preventative measures, and services for people affected by sight loss on the Island, helping them maintain independence and quality of life. Their work makes a real difference to individuals and families in our community. You can read more about their amazing work in the Isle of Man community here:
Whilst the ride from Pisa to Peel is a personal life goal, covering this distance in just 15 days, while carrying everything I need, is going to make it extremely physically and mentally challenging. But that’s exactly the point, and I hope to raise both funds and awareness for this important charity.
If you’re able to support the challenge with a donation, it would mean a great deal to me. I'm self-funding the entire adventure and so every donation will go straight to Sight Matters and will help them continue their fantastic work in the Isle of Man community.
Even a small donation can make a real difference. If 200 people can donate £25 then we can smash the £5,000 target and make a huge impact for Sight Matters.
During the weeks leading up to and throughout the journey I’ll be sharing real-time updates on my dedicated Pisa to Peel Facebook page as well as my other social media:
Thank you so much for your support. Anything that you can donate is very much appreciated.
