Story
6 years ago, I lost my Dad.
On this day today I ask you to help me to support other bereaved children like me and their families. My name is Rupert Brooke and I am 10 years old. On 19th July I will set off on an epic adventure to cycle over 900 miles from London to Barcelona to raise funds for the Children’s Bereavement Centre.
I was only four years old when my Dad was killed in an unexpected accident at work. The loss of a parent changed my life forever. I don’t remember everything from that time, but I do remember how much he loved me, how special he made me feel, and how he made me feel safe.
Since then, the Children's Bereavement Centre has been there for me, helping me to talk about him, remember him, and learn to live with the sadness. They have given me people to talk to, so I never had to feel alone. I want other children like me to have that same support — because when you lose someone you love, having someone to listen makes all the difference.
When I was seven, I became the youngest person to cycle from London to Paris, raising money for the Children’s Bereavement Centre. It was hard, but I loved every minute. Now, three years later, I am ready for a bigger challenge: cycling over 900 miles from London to Barcelona this summer. I will carry all my own gear, and spend two and a half weeks pedalling across England, France, and Spain. The climb through the Pyrenees will be tough — but I can’t wait to beat my mum to the top!
Cycling has given me strength and a real focus, and thanks to the Centre, I have grown stronger inside too. I’m riding in memory of my Daddy and Grandma, and to help other children find hope after loss.
If you can, please help me raise money for the Children's Bereavement Centre. Every donation will help another child like me find someone to talk to when they need it most.
Thank you for supporting me, and for helping to keep my memories alive.
