At Sandman Signature Hotel Newcastle, we’re excited to be taking part in the Dragon Boat Race during Corporate Day on Friday, 25th September 2026. We’ll be filling a boat with a combined team from the Sandman Hotel, Shark Club, and our Newcastle-based Head Office, bringing colleagues together for a day of teamwork, energy, and friendly competition.

This event is about more than crossing the finish line — it’s an opportunity to come together and raise money in support of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, a fantastic cause making a real difference in the fight against cancer.

Founded by Sir Bobby Robson in 2008, the Foundation was created to help find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer. Sir Bobby described it as his legacy and took enormous pride in the impact being made, once saying it felt like being at the helm of a team again.

Sir Bobby said:

“Every time I've had cancer, it hasn't knocked me over. I didn't think, ‘That’s the end of me.’ I’ve always said, ‘Oh, right. What are we going to do about that, then?’”

As a fund within the Newcastle Hospitals Charity, the Foundation directly benefits cancer patients across the North East and Cumbria while also contributing to internationally recognised cancer research.

Supported by a dedicated board of trustees including Lady Elsie Robson and the Robson family, alongside respected figures from the football community, the Foundation continues to create meaningful change.

Our team at Sandman Signature Hotel Newcastle is proud to support this incredible work and help raise vital funds that will continue Sir Bobby’s legacy and make a lasting impact for patients and families affected by cancer.
