Story
In August 2024, I faced a life-altering challenge when I contracted pneumonia so severe that I required ventilation in the ICU at Bassetlaw Hospital. The medical team considered placing me in a coma, but thankfully, that was not necessary. The nurses informed my loved ones that I was incredibly fortunate to still be here. My world felt like it had shattered, especially as I was training for the Robin Hood 100-mile Ultra Marathon at the time.
Upon my discharge, I was determined to reclaim my strength and return to running. On my first day out of the hospital, I set a goal to walk to the bottom of the garden and back. Little did I know how much my body had endured; it took me 20 minutes to recover after that short walk! However, with perseverance and dedication, I've since completed two half marathons this year. As a fitting tribute to celebrate my first anniversary of being released from the hospital, I'm excited to participate in another Ultra Marathon!
I am raising funds for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals Charitable Funds, specifically for Bassetlaw ICU. The funds raised will significantly contribute to the welfare of patients who find themselves in need of care during their most vulnerable moments. My target is £1,000 by October 4th, 2025. Your support can make a real difference in enhancing patient care and comfort during their stay in ICU. Together, we can ensure that others receive the same level of compassionate care that helped me on my journey to recovery.
