Story
Our lovely Victorian Grade II* parish church in Grafham, Surrey is in desperate need of restoration.
The walls are cracking, plaster is falling off, and the windows are crumbling. In short, subsidence is causing serious structural damage.
Without urgent repairs the church may have to close to avoid the risk of falling masonry hurting someone.
The repairs will involve taking out the whole floor of the nave, installing dozens of piles and a reinforced raft to support the nave walls, and repairing the cracking masonry.
St Andrew's is aiming to raise £1m+ to pay for these repairs.
Repairing the damage will enable us to restore the church to its former glory, including uncovering the many wall paintings which were painted over in the 1940s, and realising the original vision of the prominent Grafham based architect and philanthropist Henry Woodyer, who designed and built St Andrew's in his inimitable style at his own expense in memory of his late wife.
At the same time as stabilising the structure, we want to make the church fit for the 21st century, with:
* disabled facilities (including toilet)
* underfloor heating powered by an eco-friendly heat pump
* a kitchen
* space which can be used for events and activities by the whole community
* a safe and accessible car park
Lottery grants won’t pay for everything so we’re launching a major appeal to fill the gaps.
I'm cycling the length of the country to raise money towards our fund.

PLEASE NOTE: JustGiving asks if you wish to give them a 'tip' before clicking on the Pay button. This is in fact optional, but they don't make it easy to avoid. If you want your gift to go to St Andrew's without deduction you need to look out for where they suggest a 'tip', then click on “Custom amount” (you may need to scroll down to reveal this) and enter £0!
