Story
Hi, I’m Susie. I am Chief Executive of Home-Start Lambeth. This is my face at the start of every practice run. I am trying to enjoy running I really am. It isn’t working so far…
I am running to raise money for the charity I work for. Everyday we support families across Lambeth who need a bit of extra help. Parenting is challenging in the best of circumstances. When you are facing other challenges, parenting is even harder:
Last year:
• 71% of HS Lambeth supported parents and carers experienced mental health problems
• 86% were on a low income (according to Trust for London thresholds https://trustforlondon.org.uk/data/poverty-thresholds)
• 63% were survivors of domestic abuse
It’s easy for parents and carers to feel overwhelmed and struggle to provide the early childhood experience they want for their children. We work collaboratively with families to help them achieve the goals they set for themselves and their children.
If you want to know more about our work please see our impact report here https://pubhtml5.com/inddj/hmfz/
Or in the words of one of our families:
“Support has given me eye opener to opportunities that are available to me, and to get more information about how to do things and care for the children. I’m happy for that. I’m a lot better for it. I’m a better mother for it. It’s been great to be able to laugh and not to stress for a few hours.”
Charity isn’t free! We need your support to keep going. Please consider supporting me. I am running 5k and this is a huge test for me.
If you’ve ever thought you might want to buy me a pint, maybe sling a fiver in here. Although I’d rather a wine, and I live in London, so a tenner would be lovely.
