Original message

It’ll be 3 weeks tomorrow that I arrived at East Cheshire Hospice.

I had been told an hour or so before arriving that no further medical intervention was possible and it was now about making me comfortable and pain free. I arrived in an ambulance in a lot of pain and discomfort, whilst trying to come to terms with what I had just been told.

The moment I arrived we pulled into the car park and the driver said we’ll have to wait a minute as an Alpaca is walking across the car park, only weeks before I’d walked Alpacas with some friends. I arrived in my room to see a brass band setting up in the garden, quite the welcome 😂

I was put at ease straight away by the doctors and nurses, I sank into my bed knowing full well I was in good hands and I felt a sense of warmth knowing my Nana and Mum had volunteered here for many years. My room feels like a hotel room and has been a tranquil and calming space throughout. The lounge and garden spaces have been great for the boys allowing them to run around and just be kids in amongst these crazy times. It truly is a place of calm during the storm.

I want to thank East Cheshire Hospice for the incredible care they have shown me and my family over the last three weeks. From organising early birthday celebrations for the boys, to helping with bed repositions in the middle of the night, to those precious evenings spent with my family around my bed, drinking red wine and re-living old times – I can’t express enough appreciation for the unrelenting care and compassion of every member of staff. Nothing is ever too much and everything is possible.

The work the hospice team does is both physically and mentally demanding, yet they arrive at my door with warmth, kindness, and a smile. They turn their hands to whatever is needed, with grace and sensitivity.

If you are able, please consider donating to East Cheshire Hospice. Your support helps them continue the extraordinary work they do for families like mine.

Thank you ❤️
