The Whale Bones Run

Harry Schofield is raising money for Motor Neurone Disease Association

Team: Team John

The Whale Bones Run · 22 August 2025

Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

In 2023 after family friend and Whitby legend John Hunter was diagnosed with MND I completed 7 consecutive monthly challenges where I was joined by members of Team John throughout. This included - Leeds Marathon, Dalby's Inferno (50km Ultra), The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Fell Run, 7 miles for 7 days + 21 miles on the final day, The National 3 Peaks Challenge, Berlin Marathon & a 24 Hour Hike (in November!).

Sadly John lost his fight to MND after the 5th challenge. In his memory we now have The annual John Hunter Memorial Hike & annual John Hunter Charity Shield football match.

In August myself Nick Shallow and Craig Newlands will be running the "Whale Bones Run" 160 miles + over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Running 50 miles+ every day for 3 days, including double marathon days. The run will begin at Seahouses in Northumberland follow the coastal paths (unless we get lost) & finish at the Whale Bones in Whitby.
