Story
On 17th October, I’ll be travelling to Tanzania to attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres above sea level.
This will be one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever taken on. The climb will take several days, trekking through multiple climate zones and battling extreme altitude, cold temperatures and long summit days to reach the top - Uhuru Peak, known as the “Roof of Africa”.
I’m taking on this challenge to raise vital funds and awareness for Lancashire Mind, a charity doing incredible work supporting people across Lancashire who are struggling with their mental health.
Mental health is something that means a lot to me personally. Recently, I lost a close friend, Jay, to suicide. It’s a heartbreaking reminder of just how important it is that people feel able to talk, seek support, and know they’re not alone.
No one should feel like they have to struggle in silence, and organisations like Lancashire Mind are helping to change that by providing life-changing support, education and safe spaces for people to open up.
As a proud Lancashire Mind Ambassador, I’ve seen the incredible impact their work has across our community.
Over the next few months I’ll be dedicating my time to training and fundraising as I prepare for what will be my biggest challenge yet.
If you’re able to support in any way, whether that’s donating, sharing this page, or helping spread the message that it’s OK to talk, it would mean a huge amount.
Every donation will help Lancashire Mind continue supporting people who need it most.
Thank you for your support.
Tom
