Story
I am incredibly grateful to be running the London Marathon on 25 April 2027 to support Prostate Cancer UK's 2027 TCS London Marathon Team. Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK — that could be someone’s dad, brother, partner, or mate. It is a cause very close to my heart because both my father and I have been personally affected by this disease.
At the end of 2023, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Early the following year, despite having no symptoms myself, I went for a PSA test and was told my levels were raised. After an MRI and biopsy, I received my diagnosis on my 50th birthday. Since then, I have explored various treatment options with surgeons and consultants. By chance, a friend informed me about cryotherapy — a treatment option not initially offered to me. Through persistence, I was referred to Imperial College London where I underwent successful cryotherapy surgery in October 2024.
While the surgery has not completely eliminated the cancer, it has reduced it to a level that currently poses no threat of metastasis. I am now under active monitoring. This journey meant deferring my place in the Yorkshire Marathon until 2025; however, I have since run both the Yorkshire Marathon and the Marathon de Paris in support of Prostate Cancer UK.
I am running this marathon not only to raise vital funds for lifesaving research and support but also to raise awareness about prostate cancer. It is crucial that all men over 50 ask their doctors for checks because early diagnosis significantly improves treatment outcomes. On my way to doing the marathon I will be taking on a second challenge of running the Trans Pennine Trail from Hornsea to Southport and then cycling back the other way. Please see the information in the gallery.
Please join me in supporting this important cause by donating towards my fundraising target. Your generosity will help fund research and provide essential support for men and families affected by prostate cancer. Together we can make a difference.
