West Lothian Film Festival Charity Partnership Page for Breast Friends and Family

West Lothian Film Festival is raising money for Breast Friends and Family
“3 Year Charity Partnership with the West Lothian Film Festival”

on 21 July 2028

Breast Friends and Family support breast cancer patients at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, through diagnosis, treatment and recovery; to provide the little things that make a big difference. Breast Friends and Family has been setup by Hazel, her sister Mandy, mother Sylvia and daughter Holly. Hazel was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2015 which shocked the family but the challenges this diagnosis brought were faced with a steely determination to keep life going as normal and provide Hazel with the support she needed through treatment and recovery. The family realised that patients are supported by a number of cancer charities, each one giving additional support that patients are not even aware that they need. They began fund raising, by dancing, running, walking, knitting, sewing and organising events in support of many cancer charities. Hazel was given lots of support from a local charity based at St John’s Hospital in Livingston. As she recovered she wanted to help and support this local charity so that others like her, having a breast cancer diagnosis, were helped in the way that she was. Sadly this charity is no longer running. Hazel and her family and friends are now determined to make sure that all patients diagnosed with breast cancer at St John’s, are given the kind of help they don’t even realise they need. Providing the little things that make a big difference.

Story

Breast Friends and Family officially become the first charity partner of the West Lothian Film Festival on 20th July 2025. This partnership marks the beginning of a meaningful relationship rooted in community, compassion, and the power of storytelling.

We’ve created this JustGiving page to raise vital funds for the incredible work Breast Friends and Family do in supporting individuals and families affected by breast cancer across West Lothian. Their commitment to offering practical help, emotional support, and a strong sense of community has touched the lives of so many – and now, through this partnership, we want to give something back.

By supporting this campaign, you’re helping us honour the stories, strength and resilience of those who have faced breast cancer, and you're ensuring this vital support continues for years to come.

Together, through film and fundraising, let’s make a lasting impact.
