Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This page was inspired by our son Sam, march 2009 he went to school as usual by 8pm that evening he was in hospital having collapsed at home after tea. He was given one hour to live. Sam had a brain tumour of which we were all unaware. Thanks to the attention and rapid diagnosis he received at our local hospital he was raced to QMC Nottingham - a centre of excellence for childrens brain tumour care and research. After his initial collapse Sam could only swallow, breathe and hear. Devastating....

After a couple of weeks and surgery he started to learn to walk, talk ,use a knife and fork all those things we take for granted had been wiped from his memory. He still had triple vision which didn't make life easy!! Then began the chemotherapy and radiotherapy...just to make him feel more rotten. Finally another op to remove more pressure from his brain.

Sam, now 14,has started back to school full time - barring hospital appointments!- has just chosen his options, is starting bronze Duke of Edinburgh and has almost relearnt to read and write. He is still in his same year group...how fantastic Sam...and is full of zest for life!!

So, here we are 2 years nearly since that awful day - Sam is still full of that determination that kept him alive right at the start and we know we still have a way to go but we are moving forward........and we are hoping to raise money for research, awareness of the incidence of brain tumours in children and young adults and Sam is working with various bodies to improve going back into education after such an experience as his. ..and the effects of not only the tumour but also chemo and radio therapy on the body and mindset. His memory is still and will probably always will be a bit random but we love him like that!!

So if you would like to help raise funds for the CBTRC please feel free!!! And every pound you donate provides three pounds worth of research - just think were we to raise five hundred thousand pounds that would equate to ONE and a HALF MILLION!!! How amazing is that?? Help us with our cause and let's improve the future ....

Sam is special, brave and an inspiration but then I am his mum so to be honest he's also very much an hormonal teenage boy, something I had never hoped to be able to comment on ...and I'm loving every moment!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
