In July I am doing a 4 day trek in Iceland to raise money for the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust. At the time it seemed like a really good idea but now the reality of putting up my tent every night is sinking in!! (Quite what I do with shoes and accessories I’m not sure!!) We will spend 4 days trekking and camping in the elements but the bonus is we will be walking through the magnificent natural wilderness of Iceland (hopefully with not too much ash!!)
The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust is responsible for operating two Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS); providing a flexible life-saving service for Essex & Hertfordshire. Specialist Doctors and Ambulance Service Paramedics can be rushed to the scene of an incident with life-saving support equipment and the patient, following assessment, will be flown to an appropriate hospital. Unlike other NHS emergency services EHAAT is a charity relying solely upon the generosity and goodwill of the people and businesses of Essex and Hertfordshire to remain operational and saving lives. Doctors were introduced to the Air Ambulance Crew in November 2008; working alongside Paramedics they provide enhanced critical care and help increase the chances of survival and recovery for the most severely ill and injured patients. With Doctors on-board life-saving procedures can be carried out which would not otherwise be possible so early in the treatment process. It costs in the region of £380,000 every month to cover all charitable costs and aircraft operations – any support you can give, however small, will help the Charity to keep flying and saving lives.
