Hello!
You've probably heard about our slightly crazy and ambitious plan to cycle across the US from 21st June this year and are just checking to see if it's actually true.
It is! We’ve been training hard to cover the 4200 miles of the Transamerica Cycle Route across ten states from Oregon in the west to Virginia in the east. We are riding independently and carrying all our own gear. It's going to take us 90 days and a whole lot of saddle soreness!
As part of our trip we want to raise as much money as possible for the Parkinson's Disease Society. Parkinson’s is a debilitating disease but one where there is so much hope for a better understanding of what causes it, improved treatment and hopefully at some point, a cure. Around 120,000 people have Parkinson’s in the UK with 10,000 people being diagnosed each year.
Matt’s father Pete has Parkinson’s after being diagnosed in 1991 when he was in his late forties. The disease has robbed Peter and his family of the active man who once built his own house, enjoyed fishing, messing around in boats with his sons and was well known for his dry sense of humour, something we still see glimpses of today.
The Parkinson’s Disease Society funds research into potential cures whilst also providing support and advice to sufferers and their families. The charity is funded only by donations.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
