Hi

We did it! We can't thank you all enough for the support we have been given over the past few months, or describe the amazing feeling to actually make it to the top.

We were very lucky to climb with an amazing group of really inspiring people, and even the weather was kind to us! We made it to the top at around 8am on Thursday morning, after a 8 hour vertical climb through the night. It was tiring but worth it for that picture on the left, and to know that we had lived up to everyone's expectations!

It's not too late to sponsor us, we have until the end of October to continue fundraising towards our target. Any contributions for Marie Curie would be gratefully received. One thing we both learnt on this trek was how lucky we are and what amazing work the Marie Curie nurses do every single day to make people's lives a little bit more bearable

For those that don't know us, we are the co-founders of Parenta, and friends for over 10 years. We've aiming to raise £10,000 for Marie Curie and will stop at nothing to achieve this!

We've never attempted anything like this, and are both a long way from fit, so it is going to take months of preparation.  If you could see your way to making a donation to Marie Curie, it would all be worthwhile!

We're also looking for fundraising ideas, anything goes!  So if you have any great ideas, drop us a line nick@parenta.com we promise to consider anything and post photos of anything embarassing!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Nick's thoughts:

OMG - it's really happening!  As most of you know, I've been a dedicated salad dodger all my life, using Marlboro Lights and caffeine as a weight control mechanism for over 20 years!  When it was pointed out that as "middle age" approaches, this may be the most effective diet, I decided to ditch the tabs, and now carry the extra 2 stone to prove it!

Whilst I hope this means I have improved my chances of avoiding the Big C, one in three of us are going to be affected by cancer at some point in our lives, and we have all lost people close to us to the horrible disease.  The work that Marie Curie nurses do is just beyond belief and if  we can achieve this fundraising target by attempting this ridiculous stunt, then we'll make a real impact on someone's final days!

Al's thoughts:

OK; so I'm forty-something and clearly having (another) mid-life crisis for even contemplating walking up this hill. I am the most unfit person on the planet:- seriously, just walking up a flight of stairs is enough to have me completely out-of breath for hours. Time for a change, then, me thinks, and time to get fit. The new regime starts on 1st of January, and I may even walk to work occasionally...watch this space!

On a personal note, my father was diagnosed with Cancer this year and that's really pants. He was lucky, in that he's now been given the all clear. However with one-in-three of us suffering, we need to do something about it. This is my contribution, and I will get up this litlle hill, no matter what. Please help Nick and I to raise loads  and loads of money  to help those who are suffering.
