We did it!

On the 28th May 2010, we cycled from London to Paris to raise money to support research into Parkinson's Disease.

Many people have an image of Parkinson's Disease affecting older people only and manifesting as uncontrollable shaking. This is simply not the case. 2 years ago, at the age of 46, someone very close to our hearts and whom we love very much was diagnosed with Parkinson's.

Like him, many thousands of people from the very young to the more mature suffer a wide range of debilitating conditions due to this brain disease which remains to date without cure. Medical advances allow sufferers to control, to some extent, the symptoms, but the gradual progress of the condition may only be slowed down.  For some, the first symptoms show as a loss of control of movement, stiffness and slowness, dull pain and poor coordination. Initially this is simply a nuisance but it soon becomes life changing as it impacts on work and home life. Walking becomes an effort, running and sport become impossible, as may writing and simple daily chores. The brain's lack of ability to manage repetitive muscle function can lead to speech difficulties, choking, incontinence, vision loss as well as many more body functions many able bodied folk perform without second thoughts.

We want to celebrate our own fitness by using this challenge to help him and others and to provide the Parkinson's Society  with much needed money to find a cure. To add to the difficulty, we will be using town bikes with baskets at the front and 5 gears only for our journey!! Our 3 day long challenge however pales in comparison to the daily challenges faced by Parkinson' sufferers over many years.

Please support us by donating on this site. Your money will make a difference to others who are currently facing an uncertain future. We are confident that a cure will be found. But for this to happen money must be found to keep the research going.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. Thank you.

Chris and Mylène

Chers amis,
