THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE EVEREST CHALLENGE!
As many of you know, on 29 and 30 January 2010, thirty-four Snow-Camp supporters descented over twice the length of Mt Everest in the Austrian Alps near Salzburg (www.snow-camp.co.uk/everestchallenge). I joined them on my snowboard.
I was in one of the top two groups, comprising about 12 skiiers and two snowboarders and we actually descended 2.5 times the height of everest (over 20,000 metres of vertical drop) as measured by the GPS systems carried by our guides. Whislt gruelling and non-stop, the experience was the best I have ever had on the slopes.
HOW MUCH DID WE RAISE?
Because of your generosity we raised over £31,000 for the charity! This amount of money is outstanding --- Snow-Camp is a young charity and has never raised so much money before. We are besides ourselves with gratitude for your support.
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH ALL THAT DOSH?
This amount represents a massive boost to our finances and will ensure that more young people can attend our programmes in France and London which comprise of skiing and snowboarding + weekly lifeskills sessions designed to send young people back to their estates with a contagiously positive outlook on life. Most importantly, this money will help us to follow through with our young people after they return tio the UK. This means sessions on indoor slopes like the one in Milton Keynes, participation in our Youth Forum which discusses solutions to challenges facing inner-city young people, and the Snow-Camp Graduate Programme - which focusses on attracting economically disadvantaged 16+ year-olds to become seasonnaires in European resorts. Every £5 - £25 contribution you make contributes money towards the pens, paper, flip-charts, snacks and telephone call charges required for us to make these sessions possible. Medium sized donations of £26-£100 contribute to the diesel fuel required to fill our coaches, on piste first-aid kits, packs of gloves and socks and meals in the youth hostels during our trips. Larger donations go towards mitigating the high value of the Euro. Recent currency fluctuations means it actually costs us more than £500 to take one young person through our life-changing programmes.
So once again, thanks for your support. Pictures to come soon!
