Story
Well, we have done it! It was without doubt the most painful and difficult thing we have ever had to do. Headaches and breathlessness as part of the Acute Mountain Sickness were just the beginning. On that final summit day Saturday 28th February, we dragged ourselves through the darkness to Uhuru Peak for 6 hours and then walked down again for another 6 hours!
We do not regret the experience for a moment but we are relying on you to do your best to sponsor us for this needy cause. We really do need every penny that we can raise! A huge thank you for those of you who have already contributed! Also a huge thank you to Mauly Tours whose guides and porters were absolutely fantastic on the trip.
We are planning to put together a diary of the trip which we will forward when complete. Please do pass on the details to anyone else that may be interested.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Tanzania Development Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
This climb is going to be fairly testing! Some Kili Facts:
Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the world's highest free-standing mountain at 19,340ft (5,895m) above sea level.
The entire giant structure is a mammoth volcano - one of the biggest on earth - and if that's not scary enough its classed as dormant, not extinct!
Kilimanjaro's summit is called Uhuru Peak which in English means 'Freedom'. On the peak itself there is a wooden box containing a book in which almost every individual to reach the summit has recorded their impressions of the world from the highest point on the African continent.
While we were in Tanzania, we visited a few of the projects that the Tanzania Development Project supports and towards which your funds will go. For more information about the TDT and its many important and needy projects, please visit: www.btsociety.org
