My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well the talking is now over and I've done my planning and a few test runs and as I've told some clubs I'm now committed - so there is no turning back. - all I need to do his keep cycling to toughen up certain parts of my anatomy !
This just seemed such an appropriate challenge for me personally - to get round and visit ALL the rugby clubs which make up the North of Scotland District and whom I have had the privledge to represent on the Scottish Rugby Council over the past 3 years. = and to do it on a bike - now that I'll have all that extra time on my hands !
Its also a way of illustrating the challenges the Clubs in the North of Scotland have to overcome week in and week out just to play our great game and enjoy the fellowship that goes with the greatest team sport of them all.
Letting the ferries take the strain where possible the best and shortest route I can come up with will still involve 656 miles cycling to visit the 28 Rugby Clubs based in the North of Scotland area and I plan to spread the trip from Shetland in the North to Stonehaven in the South not forgetting Stornoway on the Outer Hebridies in the far West and every point in between over 14 days. - culminating with a round of the clubs in the Aberdeen area on the w/end of 11th and 12th of August when the Clubs should be involved with the RBS Rugby Force weekend getting ready for the new season !
It is also an opportunity to fundraise for the Murrayfield Centenary Trust Fund and to promote the great work they do supporting injured players both with short term hardship and in the case of long term catastrophic injuries adjust and cope with these. As the District Representative for the North of Scotland I have been a Trustee of the Fund and am pleased that they have been able to help a number of players from the area over that period.
This is my way of thanking them on your behalf with this personal challenge and I invite clubs to join in on legs of the cycle and use the visit to raise some funds for the MCF which is Scottish Rugby's very own charity for its injured players.

Well I made it and finished the 676 mile trip at Stonehaven on Saturday after visiting all 26 rugby clubs in the North of Scotland - with photographic proof . No punctures - and the weather was generally tolerable with some really cracking days. Thanks to you all for your support.
Well we made it ,up the Slug Road and down into Stonehaven to complete the journey - A huge thanks to all the clubs for their support and for hosting me on my one man rugby tour. The fellowship was tremendous and the support for the MCF has been most gratifying.
