Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.... Everest Base Camp Trek... am I mad? Possibly!!

Wow where to start without boring the pants off you.... guess my reasons why is a good place!   There are so many good causes but breast cancer is the one that has had a deep impact on my life.  Breast cancer has touched so many people that I know personally, some are still with us & sadly, some are not.  When my mum was diagnosed some years ago, it affected me even more & I will never forget the moment she told me.  After she had been in hospital & had her operation, I had gone to visit & can honestly say I have never been more humbled than I was that day by the women she was on the ward with.  They were all rallying round trying to make her feel better, even though they were all in similar positions.  After I left that day I remember bursting into tears in total respect & admiration for their strength of character. It made me really want to "do something" to help other women like them!

My mum was given the all clear this year so seems a very appropriate time to pull my finger out & stop talking about it!!  I had been looking for some time for a trek to do but nothing inspired me enough until I saw the Base Camp Everest trek.... which was obviously classed as an extreme challenge!  I am still spending alot of time thinking I must be slightly insane to put myself through it BUT I have a choice... many people do not!

Anyone that knows me will also know that I never do things by halves & this trek will challenge me in every way possible.  Apart from the losing weight, getting fit & tons of training (non of which come easily to me), there is the issue of trekking to 17,500ft, high altitude, no toilets, very little washing facilities, not much food & crossing gorges at extreme heights.  All taking me out of every single comfort zone I currently reside in! (have to say possibly the toilet bit is maybe the worst!)

But the one thing in all of this is the fact that Breast Cancer can affect any one of us at any time, including men, so that is the reason for me doing this & that is the thought that will keep me going!

In the words of Billy Ocean "when the going gets tough, the tough get going!"
