Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

In August 2007 I was diagnosed with a rare form of head & neck cancer. The news that I was suffering from a potentially life threatening / changing illness came as a great shock to my family and myself - especially as I have for most of my life been very active and considered myself fit and healthy.

As a result of my diagnosis, I had to undergo a period of chemotherapy and radiotherapy combined, which was not a pleasant experience at all due to the debillitating effect of the treatment.

As well as the physical effects of not being well and undergoing the treatment, there were the psychological effects that had an impact on not only myself but also on my family who had to watch me deteriorate over a period of time, and as you can imagine they were quite affected by the whole situation.

I am pleased to say that at this time I am making good progress in my return to full health.

The thing that had the most impact throughout my illness though, was the care and support that my family and I had (and still get) from the Macmillman nursing staff.

They were there 24/7 for us from the moment that I was diagnosed, and nothing was ever too much. Without their constant support and intervention, I have absolutely no doubt that my journey through the illness would have been a lot more uncomfortable.

I want to recognise the effort and work of Macmillan Cancer Support  by doing the epic Lands End to John O Groats bike ride of just over 1000 miles in an effort to raise as much money as  possible for the charity.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
