It was set up in memory of Dominic Barker, a highly intelligent and able young man for whom the burden of coping with a stammer was too much, and who took his own life as a result. I think so many of us take for granted our ease of communication. I certainly do. And perhaps stammering is not seen as the fundamental problem it is, because it is not so dramatic or apparently urgent as a need.
