Story
Hi, my name is Paul, I met Tony Smith when I was just 6 years of age, ever since he has been my Dad. Earlier this year I lost my Dad to Pancreatic Cancer, after being diagnosed in 2005 he battled on and survived for a further 28 months. He was one of the lucky ones as most people don't get diagnosed quick enough to receive treatment, only 5% survive more than a year. Lack of awareness is the main factor as most people haven't heard of Pancreatic Cancer, if I asked you where is your pancreas or what it does, how many of you would know the answers? I certainly didn't!
Within 10 days of losing my Dad my Nan and my Cousin also died. As you can imagine I was devastated and hit rock bottom. It took a while for me to pick myself up but along the way I decided I wanted to help raise awareness of Pancreatic Cancer and the devastating effects it can have on sufferers and their loved ones. Don't just take my word for it, visit any hospital or cancer ward and see for yourself!
During his treatment Dad took part in medical trials to help facilitate research, Pancreatic Cancer is the 5th most common cause of cancer death in the UK but only receives 1% of Cancer Research funding, I would like to support Pancreatic Cancer UK in his name in any way possible. Despite being terrified of heights I have volunteered to risk my life by throwing myself out of a plane at 10,000ft!! If this doesn't prove it's a worthwhile cause then what will?
My aims for doing this are to help raise awareness of Pancreatic Cancer and to raise money on behalf of Pancreatic Cancer UK which will help support others in the future. With your assistance we can help to improve the quantity and quality of lives - guaranteed!
Please sponsor as much as you can afford and help me to raise awareness by speaking to your loved ones.
