My story

Hi - Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. My mother, Leigh Maxin died from a rare neurological condition called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in January of this year. It is a dreadful condition for which there is no known cause or cure. It involves the loss of neurons in the brain that allow for eye movement, balance, speech and swallowing. It is a progressive condition that ultimately leads to the patient being unable to swallow, speak; have severe tunnel vision and be unable to mobilize themselves.

The PSP Association is the only national organisation in the UK dedicated to the support of people with this condition and those who care for them. They fund research and support patients, families and carers. I promised my mum that I would do whatever I could to support people with the condition.

At 4pm on 4th July I completed my cycle from London to Paris, a goal I've had to raise awareness and money for this condition. Each day had a story. On day 1 we got lost 11 miles north of Dover and only just made the ferry; day 2 we encountered temperatures of over 39C; day three I went over the handlebars after a confrontation with a rottweiler in a northern French village; day 4 was so special as we rode around the Arc de Triomphe, down the Champs Elysses to the Eiffel Tower applauded in by thousands of Parisens who lined the streets.

I am hugely grateful for each and every donation - I've been training pretty methodically over the last few months and feel very up for the challenge. Given that I was "puffed" cycling 6 miles at the end of January.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The PSP Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!

Thank you so much,

Paul
