Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

This will be my first time running a marathon assuming I toe the line on Sunday 5th October 2008.

I have run for Macmillan before and have had other personal reasons for being involved with them in the past.  So for me it was mainly about doing something worthwhile while I 'enjoyed' a plod along the lochside too.  However having witnessed the work of a Macmillan Nurse at close quarters recently I felt I'd like to set up this page and raise whatever extra I could online too in the short time left before the race.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

UPDATE

Well that's the run done and dusted!  I just like to say many thanks to all the lovely people who supported me along the way.  Everyone has been so generous and I know the funds raised for MacMillan will be put to good use.

The race itself was interesting and a great experience.  It didn't quite go as I had planned as I picked up a knee injury after about only 6 miles.  It didn't stop me and didn't slow me down either until I was about 18 miles into the race where I knew I had to back up the pace otherwise I would not have been able to finish the race.  So I swallowed my pride and slowed down to complete the final third.

I completed it with a sprint finish along the athletics track in front of family and friends supporting me.  Before the race I had promised them a sprint finish no matter how I felt at the end and when you make a promise it's only right that you should deliver

I did it in 4hours 19 mins and some change ( not bad for a 1st go) and I'm looking forward to recovering (Knee) and seeing what's next.

It was great to have something other than myself to run for and I can assure you that having Macmillan with me certainly help push me along when I felt it was hard going.  Wearing their top was good reminder to me that I am very lucky to be able to do what I do.

If anyone happens to read this who may be thinking of doing an event on behalf of a charity I can wholeheartedly recommend the experience to you.

The race is done and dusted now but if you happen to come across this after the event you can still donate to Macmillan on this page up until January 2009.

Thanks again to everyone for their generosity.
