Let me introduce Dani to you...
Dani is an eight year old girl from Oruro, a small mining town in Bolivia.
Her mother is an alcoholic and often leaves her children alone for long periods at a time; because of this Dani spends a lot of time on the streets of Oruro. She lives in extreme poverty and for a long time didn't have anyone to show her the love she needs and deserves. Recently she had been going to a school funded by Toybox, where she is given the care she needs and is a bright, happy child who now has the hope of a bright future.
Oruro is full of children like Dani, who either live on the streets or are at high risk of ending up there. Children often start life on the street by working to earn money for their family, or by running away from their family situation. Gradually they spend more and more time on the street until it becomes home. Life on the streets is tough; children struggle for survival, are often abused by adults, and become addicted to 'clefa' (glue) as the only way to escape their reality.
It's for children like Dani that I have decided to cycle from one end of the UK to the other. There will be a small team of us doing the ride, and we hope to raise £50,000, as well as telling as many people as possible on the way about street children in Latin America.
Toybox works in partnership with a local organisation in Oruro to change the lives of street children, one child at a time, by funding 'Guardian Angels' to be on the lookout for children at risk. The vision of Toybox is of a world with no street children, and I hope you will want to be part of this goal.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Toybox Charity will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Thank you for your support!
Paul
