About Grove House - official version

Grove House leads the way in supporting patients, families and friends living with cancer or a life-threatening illness in Dacorum, Harpenden andSt Albans.

This unique and forward-thinking service provides specialist care and advice from the time of diagnosis focusing on the individual and promoting patient choice.

About Grove House - Personal Version

I work at Grove House every day, and the longer I have worked here the more astounding I find this place, and the people who use our services, and the staff who provide them.  So many things stick in my mind about my time here; things that have changed the way I view the world.  How do you react to the lady who wants to make a donation for the help she is receiving, and tells you that she just needs to live long enough to see the birth of her first grandson (she didn't)?  Or the mother who comes in to collect the painting left in our art room by her now dead daughter and who tells you how much comfort she gets from looking at the scene because it is as if her daughter talking to her?  I don't have the vocabulary to respond, but I work in an organisation that employs people who can say the right thing and who create a better world for people who are going through these experiences.  They do it brilliantly, and we charge no money for it!  How can that possibly be?  At Grove house, and hospices up and down this country you get a glimpse of the way the world should be.  So don't be scared to donate to ensure that this care is always available.

I will attempt this Ironman, and I hope that I complete it.  The pain and discomfort I will feel is nothing compared to how some people very dear to me are feeling even as I write.  So when I'm flagging and want to pack it all in, it is they who I will think of, and they will be my inspiration to finish.  This one's for you!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Grove House gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now, and feel that lovely warm glow of goodness flow through your body!

Much love

Paul
