Story
Another year and Paul has set himself another challenge to raise money for the Destitution Fund at St Rollox, supporting homeless refugees in Glasgow with basic necessities.
Last year Paul ran the 10k dressed as Pancho Villa. So, what should the next challenge be? Paul has decided to swim a mile in Loch Lomond in the Great Scottish Swim, on 24 August! Unfortunately, fancy dress is not allowed in the water (unless his flash wetsuit with yellow stripes down the side counts ).
The Destitution Fund has been running at St Rollox for 3 years. During that time we have been able to support homeless refugees in Glasgow with over 1,000 parcels of food and toiletries given out in the past year. It's an essential service for many of our destitute friends who tell us this is the only place in the city where they receive proper nutritional food that keeps them going. It's worth saying here that the support they receive is not just about getting food packs. While food and toiletries are being distributed, we run a 'cafe' where our friends can sit, have a cup of tea, chat with others, and receive other information on how they can hopefully move out of destitution and back onto support. The destitution programme attempts to be a holistic outreach: providing quality and healthy food, but also supporting our friends with any assistance we can offer with their cases, emotional support, and spiritual support. In our three years of running destitution support, we have seen an increase in the number of destitute refugees.
This service, however, is entirely reliant on charitable donations from individuals like you.
Thanks for considering to sponsor Paul's swim, in order to raise money for this essential form of service to some of the most marginalised people in Glasgow.
