The patients Les Niewiara and Trace Allen made contact through Pancreatic Cancer UK and are able to share experiences of treatment and surgery. The charity provides a support network for carers, family and friends of patients as well as patients themselves.
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival of any cancer - 1 year 13%, 5 year 2%. With 7000 deaths a year it is the 6th most common cause of cancer deaths in UK. However it has been neglected compared to the high profile cancers. Pancreatic Cancer UK is working for improvements by providing support and information to those affected by the disease as well as raising awareness and funds for research. It is vital that techniques are found for both earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment.
Funds are vitally needed for work to try to improve the survival rates and quality of life for pancreatic cancer patients and their families through research and improvements in diagnosis, treatment, support and information.
