A Peal for the Appeal · 20 July 2013

Lichfield Cathedral has been a place of pilgrimage, history and worship for over 1,300 years. It costs £5,000 a day to keep the Cathedral open. We do not charge for entry, so your support is vital to help preserve the fabric of the building and develop its ministry for future generations. Thank you.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

What could be more typically English than the sound of church bells on a summer afternoon?

On Saturday July 20 bellringers from Lichfield Cathedral will ring a full peal on the Cathedral bells in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and to raise funds for the Cathedral's East End Appeal. The peal will start at 13:30.

A full peal is not often rung as it takes over three hours and has at least 5,000 changes, so this is a real challenge for the band of bellringers.

The East End Appeal has seen the restoration of the North and South choir aisles, the replacement of the external stonework of the Lady Chapel and the conservation of the 16th century Renaissance Herkenrode Glass, which will return in 2015.
