Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
From 18th to 20th July 2014, I along with approximately 80 police officers and survivors will be cycling from London to Alrewas in Staffordshire to raise money for COPS and to honour the memory of those police officers killed in the course of their duty.
Behind every tragic death is a family bereaved and traumatised by the sudden and untimely loss of their loved one who never came home from work. COPS are helping those families rebuild their lives.
In 2013, I was privileged to be the only non Police Officer or relative of a deceased police officer to be invited to take part in the inaugural UK Police Unity Tour ride from the National Police Memorial on The Mall in London to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire.
We ride in memory of UK police officers who died in the line of their duty. Each rider riding in memory of a specific police officer, whose details are on a bracelet the rider carries to the National Memorial Arboretum and then presents to the family of the deceased officer's family.
COPS is a UK registered charity dedicated to helping the families of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, rebuild their lives. It aims to ensure that survivors have all the help they need to cope with such a tragedy.
Having spent time riding with a survivor and hearing the stories of some of survivors at the annual COPS Memorial Service makes you realise how traumatic it is to lose a loved one who is simply doing their job. It also makes you realises how good a job COPS do.
Please help support this charity and its fantastic work.
I may have spent most of my legal career on the opposite side to the police, being a defence lawyer for many years. However, this experience makes me realise the dedication of most police officers and the dangers they face in protecting us all. This makes me so proud to be associated with such a great cause.
