We fight for a world without iron overload to prevent serious illness and save lives

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Three years ago my step-father died from the horrible condition Haemochromatosis. It was a fairly quick but unpleasant death that was 73 years in the making thanks to this genetic silent killer....

I had planned a big bike ride to coincide with the first anniversary of him dying but an injury or two, a new job and life in general got in the way of that. Until now.

In August 2018 I will be riding the French Divide, an ultra-distance bike-packing brevet (a cycling adventure with no assistance). It is one of a new breed of event that will give 150 cyclists the chance to ride the whole length of France - most of it off-road. There is fixed route with a total distance of 2275 kilometres and a whopping 32000 metres of vertical elevation that's 32 kilometres or in 'old money' 20 miles straight up! Oh, and it has to be completed in no more than 15 days. There is no support, no organised meal stops, nothing. I will carry everything I need on the bike, wild camping each night along the way when I can't pedal anymore that day.

I always wanted to do something forThe Haemochromatosis Society both in terms of raising some funds but also raising the profile of this relatively unknown yet quite prevalent condition and now I have my chance. I have supplied and paid for the entry fees and all the equipment required to undertake this event from my own funds and instead am going to be asking for profile raising support from all the manufacturers whose products I have bought and will promote (obviously they are welcome to donate here too!!)
