I'm hoping to raise £3000, £1 for every mile I bike, in aid of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), a charity which for the past 30 years has worked to provide emergency and primary medical aid to the thousands of people affected by the ongoing conflict. Medical Aid for Palestinians focuses on getting aid to those who need it most. MAP’s work includes providing mobile medical clinics and specialist burns units for civilians injured in the conflict, primary care for the thousands people suffering from chronic malnutrition and related illnesses, and therapy sessions to mothers and children as part of the psychological intervention programme in Gaza.
Tarifa is the most southern point of mainland Europe. From there I'll strike north up the ancient pilgrim route Via de la Plata to Santiago de Compostela. From there to San Sebastian along the Camino Primitivo and the Camino del Norte it is really hilly, so I'll be happy to get back onto level ground up the west coast of France. From St Malo I'll sail to Portsmouth, then it's London, Cambridge, Lincoln and York.
The money we raise could go quite a long way by providing, for example, a midwife for babies born into refugee camps for a period of almost six months.
