Story

Hi! Thanks for visiting my page. I'm aiming to raise a few Euros to go towards immediate aid for refugees in Calais and Dunkirk - and particularly, to help build shelters for unaccompanied minors (minors, not miners).

For a month from mid-May, I'm setting off to cycle from the UK to Gibraltar, where two of my best friends will be eagerly awaiting my arrival. Together we'll attempt to cross the Strait of Gibraltar to Africa on a stand-up Paddleboard. I'll be blogging about aching muscles, sunburn, chafing and more at www.pedalthenpaddle.com

I'm mainly doing it because I find these types of things 'fun,' but a few benevolent souls amongst you have asked if you can sponsor me. I visited 'Auberge des Migrants' in Calais earlier this year, and saw first hand an amazing organisation that builds temporary, yet insulated and watertight, shelters for refugees there. At the moment, they are focusing their efforts on providing shelters for the younger, unaccompanied residents of the camp.

Anything you can spare would really help.

Please note, the charity Umutima have very kindly agreed to handle the donations as Auberge des Migrants is not (yet) a registered charity. They had to set up pretty quickly in response to the refugee crisis, so haven't caught up with the paperwork and formalities yet. Donations will receive Gift Aid, and Umutima will then transfer the funds to l'Auberge on my behalf.
