Story

Here we are, into 2012 and my second year of fundraising for Project AWARE!

My target is to reach £2,000 by the end of the year, to support all the amazing work Project AWARE does for the marine environment.

So, following on from last year’s list of sporting events (further below), so far this year I have entries in the following;

Eton Humanrace Supersprint Triathlon – 19th May 2012

Blenheim Triathlon - Sprint Distance – 10th June 2012

Nike British 10k Run - 8th July 2012

Jenson Button Trust Triathlon Comp (300m/10k/2.5k x2 rounds) - 19th August 2012

Lidle Bananaman Triathlon (800m/32k/7.5k) - 15th September 2012

Virgin Active London Triathlon (Olympic Distance) – 23 September 2012

Royal Parks Half Marathon – 7 October 2012

This list is by no means complete, so do please keep an eye out for new additions!

This year the bar will be raised, as I will be training harder than ever before, with the aim to significantly beat all of my times across the same distances – fuelled by my own pledge to donate £3 for every minute that I take off of my 2011 times.

Along with entering sporting events, 2012 will see me continue to support Project AWARE by assisting with Dive Shows around the UK, and undertaking other volunteer activities where possible, such has holding presentations at environmental forums and meetings.

Project AWARE Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to conserving underwater environments through education, advocacy and action. Project AWARE combats challenges facing aquatic resources in 175 countries and territories with direct support from divers and water enthusiasts worldwide.

Project AWARE Foundation and dedicated volunteers are committed to conservation initiatives, such as underwater clean-ups and marine debris prevention, coral reef conservation, monitoring and data collection, shark education, reporting and conservation, improved management policies and marine protection efforts and environmental training for divers and education programs for kids.

So please dig deep and donate now to help preserve our delicate marine habitats worldwide.

Thank you so much for your support!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Many of you may already be aware that one of my passions is wildlife and conservation, and I actively support any work charities do in these areas.

To support marine habitats worldwide, this year I will be pledging my support in a number of ways, from volunteering to financial assistance. My target is to raise £2,000 by 31st December 2011 through this site for Project AWARE, a charity I have been a member of for some time now.

To reach my target, I will be undergoing some rather intense training regimes, in activities I have never done before, and then going ahead and entering myself into a number of sporting events over the course of the year (gulp!). Events I am currently registered for are;

The Grim Challenge – 15January 2011

Eton Humanrace Supersprint Triathlon – 15 May 2011

Hever Castle Supersprint Triathlon – 8th June 2011

Eton Humanrace Sprint Triathlon - 22nd June 2011

Virgin Active London Triathlon (Olympic Distance) – 31 July 2011

Nike Run to the Beat Half Marathon - 25th September 2011

The Grim Challenge – 4December 2011

Having done nothing like this before, I’m sure everyone will agree that this is no mean feat… and this list is by no means definitive – so watch this space for new additions!

Give Sharks a Fighting Chance in 2011!

Proposals to restrict trade in eight shark species - spiny dogfish, porbeagle, oceanic whitetip, scalloped hammerhead, great hammerhead, smooth hammerhead, dusky and sandbar sharks - failed at the last Convention on International Trade in Endangered
Species (CITES).

This represents victory for short-term economic interests over science and the myriad long-term benefits of conservation.

Please take time to visit the link below and sign the petition to demand better shark protection to CITES Party representatives between now and CITES 2013 to give sharks a fighting chance of success.

I would like to say that donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Project AWARE and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now to help preserve our delicate marine habitats worldwide.
