Sponsor the New Year Yoga Challenge in aid of Peer2pier: promoting student wellbeing
Four campuses are coming together across Hastings, Eastbourne and Brighton to create the six hour New Year Yoga Challenge, bringing the univeristy community together in aid of Peer2pier and student wellbeing.
It's taking place from 11am until 5pm on Tuesday 18 January.
Why we're raising money for Peer2pier
Peer2pier is a new volunteer scheme created to support student wellbeing. It’s part of the new Wellbeing Zone at the University of Brighton Students’ Union which became a registered charity in 2010.
Peer2pier helps students experiencing non-academic personal difficulties and who may be considering leaving the university. The project aims to prevent problems escalating by encouraging students to instigate wellbeing campaigns and training student mentors to provide advice and friendship to all those in need.
The university's Student Services have kindly provided the funding for the first year of the project. They feel this sort of pro-active, student-led volunteer scheme is vital to reach students who wouldn’t seek out the help the university is able to provide. The Students' Union now need to find the funds to help develop this project in the next academic year.
More about Peer2pier
Many students may not feel comfortable turning to an institution for advice so Brighton SU are giving students the opportunity to offer that support themselves.
·
1. Peer2pier encourages students to get involved in or instigate wellbeing campaigns, making a positive impact on student experience, while earning CPD credits and gaining some great skills and experience in the process.
2. Peer2pier aims to help students feel involved in and part of the university community. A new buddying scheme will train students to act as mentors so they can provide advice and friendship students who need non-academic help or are considering leaving the university.
3. Peer2pier provides support to students who may be hesitant about seeking help, an interactive online tool: Netreach, will shortly be launched so students can remain anonymous, get advice and find out about university wellbeing services that are available to support them.
