The Penny-A-Mile Ultra Challenge · 7 April 2014

Retina UK is the only UK charity dedicated solely to working for people affected by inherited sight loss. We fund medical research to accelerate the search for treatments for the future, and provide information and support to help people lead better lives today.

Story

I've been ultrarunning for a couple of years now and the UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc) has been on my bucket list since I first started.

The UTMB is a 100 mile off-road continuous running race starting and finishing in Chamonix in the French Alps.  It circumnavigates the Mont Blanc Massif mountain range and passes through Italy and Switzerland on it's way back to Chamonix.  Obviously there are a few hills in that part of the world and it seems as though they send the race over most of them as the total ascent is ~9500m, which is a lot.

In my preparation for this race I'm running a 40 mile ultra in Majorca on Easter weekend and a 60 miler in the Peak District on the 21st of June.  Since I'm not sure my Achilles will hold up through all these races I'm asking people to sponsor me a penny-per-mile, partly to motivate me to keep moving in the dark moments, and partly to reflect the reality that I might not do it.  Since, all in all I'll be racing 200 miles this year, if you sponsor me a penny-a-mile this would expose you to a maximum donation of £2.  Of course larger donations are welcomed!
