On February 9 2009 people=positive™ was 20 years old and I’m pleased to say we’re still going strong. As part of our 20 years celebration we will be making a trip to Ladakh in Northern India. There will be a team of ten people including staff from people=positive and also some of our clients!

A lot has happened in 20 years but we couldn’t have made it without some incredible support from a wide ranging special group of people. Our supporters have been from family, friends and essentially our customers – and some of these are scattered around the world. It has been a wonderful extraordinary journey with great memories and some great people and here we are in 2009 continuing the sense of adventure.

OUR AIM:   To build a dormitory school for young monks (monklets) in an isolated area of Ladakh.

This will be an expedition where we will spend 90% of the time camping supported by a great in-country team. Trekking will be a major part plus driving in Jeeps to reach the site. The trip will have a fully qualified doctor with medical supplies as part of the team

Norboo Tseering, Head Lama of Shuchakul Monastery, which is on the edge of the remote Chang Tang Plain, close to the Tibetan border, has approached the Lotus Flower trust to build a home for 40 young Monks. This is an extremely hostile environment and to reach the area one has to cross Chang La, 17,400ft, the third highest navigable pass in the world.

Their present building was inadequate and in imminent danger of falling down. The young monks all share the sleeping accommodation.

The proposed new hostel would have nine 10ft by 8ft bedrooms for the monklets, a room for the teaching monk, a kitchen and six Tibetan-style toilets.

The land would be provided free and the monks and locals would work alongside the students to teach them local craftsmanship.  It will be built in traditional Tibetan style, mud bricks for the walls, with willow for the beams, cardboard and mud for the roof.  Locals will lay the foundations and it is expected that the build will require two visits. Heating will be by solar panels.  Bedding and stoves will also be provided.

The cost of building and fitting out will be £15,000

We want to make a difference and believe that we can!  You can help us too, even if you can't commit time to make the trek and build the school, anything you can do to help us will be greatly appreciated.

It's not too late to join us on our adventure and if you would like to take part please contact Donna Marshall at dm@peoplepositive.com.
