Ben was born on 20 June 2007 under the care of Evelina Children's Hospital weighing just 4lb. He was diagnosed antenatally with a rare condition where the arteries of his heart were the wrong way round. At just 12 days old Ben underwent heart surgery at Evelina to correct his arteries. Ben had a difficult time in the operating theatre and post operatively, suffering 2 heart attacks, a collapsed lung and renal failure.
Due to his amazing strength and the incredible skill of the surgeons and doctors at Evelina he began to improve day by day. Ben stayed at the hospital for two months and finally came home on 31 August 2007 weighing 5lb.
Although still under the care of the hospital as an outpatient, Ben is a happy and energetic little boy who is constantly on the move!
