October31st 2008 i fly into Kathmandu followed by a short flight to Lukla where i will spend 3days to acclimatise due to the rise in altitude.Starting out along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River we trek to Phakding(2,650m).Then climbing out of the valley up to Namche Bazaar(3,400m) the Sherpa capital.Another day to acclimatise before heading past the Sagarmartha National Park,Everest View Hotel and the hospital at Kunde that was set up by Sir Edmond Hiliary.Onto Tyangboche(3,867m)and then higher to Dingboche(4,350m). Another day to acclimatise before heading to Lobuje(4,928m)high above the Pheriche Valley passing the Khumba Glacier flowing off Everest. If all has gone to plan by day12 i should be trekking out of Lobuje to reach my objective..Everest Base Camp(5,357m) This is a difficult challenge but should be very rewarding.17days in total,120km round trip and nearly 17000ft up.In the coming months nearly all my spare time will be taken up with training and collecting sponsors to make the trip worthwhile for a very deserving cause...St Ann's Hospice(www.sah.org.uk) So with all of this in mind, all I ask is for you to sponsor me as generously as you can so the staff at St Ann's can carry on doing their fantastic work at the Hospice. Fundraising Officer Louise Kelly said “we are absolutely delighted that Pete is supporting us by trekking to Everest Base Camp, and we wish him the best of luck for his training and the event itself. St Ann’s Hospice simply could not survive without Pete’s help and people like him. We are so grateful for his support and we really hope that everyone will support him as much as possible – good luck Pete!” Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: St Ann's Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support. Pete
