Jeevika Trust - Walk for Water 2009 · 13 September 2009 ·

JEEVIKA TRUST tackles the roots of Indian poverty - working in rural areas with low-caste and tribal people, especially women - to help them build their individual and community livelihoods. Our latest partner is AKSHAYA KSHETRAM, a charity which cares for mentally challenged people and orphans.

Story

Jeevika Trust is a registered charity that aims to tackle the roots of poverty in India by revitalising rural communities.  We work with people on the margins of society, low-caste and tribal people, especially disadvantaged women, to help them build and sustain their individual, family and community livelihoods.

India is home to 50% of the 2 million children across the world that die from diarrhoea every year – many of these will die because they don’t have access to clean and safe drinking water.  Every day rural Indian women may typically walk up to 7 miles a day, or even more, to collect water for their family – part of our work is to help rural families get reliable access to safe water.
